One Cupcake at a Time
Margo Engberg's love of cupcakes has led PinkaBella to expand from a single shop to five locations, with AmazonLocal introducing her beautiful creations to hundreds of new customers.
Margo Engberg always loved baking, learning the skill from her mother and grandmother. As she grew older that passion dovetailed with her love for throwing parties and special events, where her tasty baked creations would often delight her friends and family. She even started baking cupcakes for children at her daughter's school who couldn't bring in treats on their birthdays, following her belief that no one should be without cupcakes.
Friends would always tell Margo that she should start her own business, but she never took it seriously until one day when inspiration hit. Margo realized that by selling her cupcakes she could raise money to help needy children around the world. Thus a cupcake business was born.
She started out modest, renting a hole-in-the-wall space in Redmond. She decided to give it a try for a month and see if she could sell enough cupcakes to break even, about 600 cupcakes worth. With only a home mixer and the help of her husband and one friend, she quickly sold over 1,000 cupcakes within the first weeks. From that tiny start, PinkaBella Cupcakes has grown into a premier gourmet cupcake business with five locations in the greater Seattle area.
The business grew organically through word of mouth; so using other marketing efforts was not a priority to Margo until a sales rep from AmazonLocal approached her about running a promotion.
